Coal India Limited, under the Ministry of Coal, has launched a new software called Spectral Enhancement SPE which will help identify thin coal seams under the earth’s crust and improve the assessment of coal resources using seismic surveys during the process of coal exploration.
The launch of the SPE software is gaining in importance as current seismic survey techniques for exploring for coal resources have limitations in identifying thin coal seams underground, which will now be possible as this new software helps to improve the resolution of seismic signals leading to the delineation of the thinnest seams of coal.
Coal India Limited’s research and development division, the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute, has developed this first-of-its-kind software in association with the Gujrat Energy Research and Management Institute and the company will also be filing for copyright protection. .
The Made in India software will also help save time and cost of coal exploration and thus strengthen Atmanirbhar Bharat’s mission in coal production.
Coal India Limited CMD Pramod Agrawal launched the software in the presence of the Research and Development Board of Coal India Limited, made up of senior directors and expert members from well-known organizations and institutions.
Coal India Limited accounts for 80 percent of India’s coal production.
