German automotive company Continental is adding driver assistance and automated driving software development activities to Szeged (170 km southeast of Budapest), said Continental Hungary country manager Róbert Keszte , at an event at the University of Szeged this week.

Keszte said Continental decided to expand the software development base’s operations to Szeged in light of the quality of local university education and the existing community of professionals based in the city. He noted that Continental had operated a plant in Szeged for decades.

Balázs Lóránd, who heads Continental Autonomous Mobility Hungary, said a team of 40 software engineers in Szeged would be responsible for preparing data for AI-based developments.

Continental signed a strategic cooperation agreement, extending to education and research, with the university at the event. Continental employs more than 8,000 people at six manufacturing bases, a tire sales center and its development centers in Hungary.
