App facilitates proper formula selection for fluid administration

Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth (SBV), which governs the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, has developed a mobile app to help with fluid management for burn patients. The app was developed by a team led by N. Ananthakrishnan, Dean of Faculty, at MGMCRI. According to Dr. Ananthakrishnan, the app enables automatic calculation of body surface area by shading a three-dimensional figure and entering demographic information.

The app facilitates the proper selection of the fluid delivery formula, especially for the management of burns, which is a common requirement, replacing fluid loss from the body. The app automatically calculates fluid requirements for the crucial first eight hours after burns, the next sixteen hours, and then the next twenty-four hours. Officially launching the native app, “SBV – Burns Mobile App”, enabled through Google Play Store, SC Parija, Vice Chancellor, SBV, said the app will help the medical fraternity manage timely fluid replacement in burn cases. He added that the product was yet another result of SBV’s constant efforts to harness faculty expertise for holistic academic, research and patient care output for the benefit of the patient community.
