NORMAL, sick. – Indiana State is 12th overall, while Molly Lee sits in the top 20 as the Sycamores closed day one of the Redbird Fall Invitational.
The Sycamores (+61) posted a two-round 637 as Indiana State joined the pack to battle conditions at Weibring Golf Club on Sunday. With the bad weather blowing throughout the day and the temperature dropping in the afternoon, the players fought their way through the entirety of the two rounds on the first day.
“The girls were able to play in difficult conditions today,” the head coach said. Greg City said after opening day. “It’s good to have these kinds of days because you gain respect for the attitude it takes to compete when the weather is tough and things don’t go your way. We’ll come out of this better and expect looking forward to the final round tomorrow.”
Lee (+8) led the Sycamores through the first two rounds to sit in an eight-way tie for 19th at 36 holes. Starting on the back nine, Lee birdied the 11th and 14th holes of the first round en route to a 73(+1) in the morning. She followed that up with a second round of 79 (+7) with birdies on the fourth and sixth holes to highlight her afternoon.
Kristen Hobbs (+14) is tied for 53rd in the peloton after scoring 158 in two rounds. His first round 77 was highlighted by a trio of birdies on the 11th, 18th and first holes. She finished the day with an 81 (+9) in the second round with a birdie on the sixth hole to highlight her round.
Chelsea Morrow (+16) is two shots behind her teammate tied for 64th in the peloton. She posted a first round 82 (+10), but carded the ISU low round in the second round with a 78 (+6) to post 160 hits on the day.
Briana Lemaire (+23) closed the first two rounds of her collegiate career on Sunday to find herself tied for 76th in the field. The freshman went 84-83 on the par-72 course to post 167 shots on day one. She added the team’s top four first-round birdies to highlight the day.
Iyoun Chew (+34) completed the Sycamores on the field with a score of 178 in two rounds after their 89-89 on the day.
Butler (+18) leads the overall tournament standings after his round scores of 298 and 296 to highlight opening day. IUPUI’s Annaliese Fox (-2) and Reese Wilson (-2) are the individual 36-hole leaders.
Indiana State and the rest of the Redbird Invitational field wrap up the two-day tournament at Weibring Golf Club beginning tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
